NBA Player Kenneth Faried Arrested with Two Ounces of Weed in New York
One of New York’s newest athletes could already be in some scorching hot water, a little less than two months after his initial arrival.
Kenneth Faried, who spent his first seven seasons as a member of the Denver Nuggets before he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets as part of a massive salary dump, was arrested early Sunday morning after getting caught with over two ounces of weed.
Unfortunately for the NBA powerhouse known as “The Manimal,” things don’t look all that peachy.
Kenneth Faried Busted
According to TMZ Sports, the 28-year-old power forward was arrested on the Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton, New York at around 1:30 AM Sunday. His vehicle, allegedly, was stopped at a sobriety checkpoint on Long Island, where an officer noticed that a “strong odor of marijuana was emanating from the inside of the vehicle,” per the celebrity news site.
Police searched Faried’s car and found over two ounces of cannabis, along with an undisclosed amount of cash, within the confines of the vehicle. He was then charged with fourth-degree unlawful possession of marijuana— a misdemeanor— and taken to a local police station for processing.
He was released on $500 bail.
According to police, Faried actually received a worse penalty for his crime because of the amount of weed he was carrying at the time.
Following the arrest, the Brooklyn Nets released a statement on the behalf of their newly-acquired power forward.
“We are aware of the situation involving Kenneth Faried and are in the process of gathering more information at this time,” the Nets said in a statement.
Kenneth Faried’s Fate
If ultimately convicted, Kenneth Faried could face up to a full year in jail. However, that seems to be the worst-case scenario at this time.
Many of the details of the arrest remain unclear at this time, including exactly how much money was seized from the vehicle, as well as the reasoning behind it.
As for Faried’s prospects for the next NBA campaign, those too, appear murky.
The Nets still owe Faried $13.7 million for the upcoming 2018-19 NBA season. However, next season will be the last year of his monster deal, so it is possible that the Nets could opt to part ways with the underperforming role player before the official start of the NBA calendar year, via buyout.
Last year was Faried’s worst campaign as a pro. The 28-year-old averaged just 5.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in 14.4 minutes per game for Denver last year.
Unfortunately for Faried, it appears as if his struggles on the court, have led to some equally-troubling issues off of it.
